Friday Friendly

Friday Friendly meets each Friday morning.  Morning tea is provided for clients and this is followed by singing and dancing and other organized activities.

Assist frail aged persons and people with disabilities to socialise in a relaxed atmosphere of fun and friendliness.  This includes talking to clients, showing interest in their activities, singing in a large group, dancing in a large group, assisting clients on outings and assisting them on and off the bus and helping in the organization of theme days.

Monday Friendship Circle

Each Monday morning clients meet new friends and enjoy a program centred on having fun and building friendships.  Morning tea is provided and the program includes theme days, music, games, crafts, quizzes and lots of laughter.

Show friendliness to ageing and frail persons in a fun and creative manner.  Volunteers assist in the preparation of morning tea, support clients in small tasks, encourage dialogue between clients, and assist clients on and off the bus.

Exercise Group

This group is held every Wednesday morning.  The aim of this group is to maintain independent living at home and prevent falls.  Our physiotherapist runs this group which consists of gentle exercises for flexibility, strength, coordination and improved balance in a friendly atmosphere.

Volunteers assist the Physiotherapist provide a safe exercise program for frail aged clients.  They also prepare morning tea for the clients and help them on and off the bus.  Heat packs, massage and foot spas may be administered under the direction of the physiotherapist.

Monday Shopping Group

Held every Monday afternoon, clients are collected in the Centre’s bus and taken to the Cannon Hill shopping centre where, after the larger group gathers for coffee and/or lunch, a volunteer assists a client with some shopping activity.

Assist a client who is frail aged and/or who has a disability to go shopping.


A fun playgroup is provided for parents and children each Friday during school terms from 9:00am-11:00am.

Provide assistance to parents and children in play and directed activities.

Show friendliness to ageing and frail persons in a fun and creative manner.  Volunteers will assist with the set-up of the room, preparation and clean-up of morning tea, and encourage dialogue between clients and singing in the group.  Volunteers also assist the clients with their mobility when necessary.

Community Life Program (CLP)

The Community Life Program is a home-visiting program for clients who are unable to attend our centre based activities.  This program also provides support and transport for our clients to attend medical appointments or other supported social activities.

To visit people in their own homes for social contact.  Visits may include activities such as letter writing, reading the newspaper, card playing or just having a cuppa and a chat.  The volunteer may also assist in taking on a bridging role to reintroduce the client, where possible, to established community activities such as social clubs, senior citizens clubs, local bowls clubs etc.

Other Roles

As well as assisting clients, some volunteers work in specific short-term roles or projects including fundraising, public relations and Quality Assurance.
